A native of Covington, Georgia, John Wheeler followed in the footsteps of his father when he joined the Navy at the age of 18. As a milestone of his service, he spent two years in Washington, D.C. serving in the Honor Guard, including an assignment at the Pentagon Office of the Secretary of Defense. John then set his sights on the Navy’s toughest assignment — the SEALs. Having survived Hell Week and BUDs to become part of this elite group of Sailors, he joined SEAL Team 2. John spent six years as a SEAL, serving in Liberia as well as other hot spots around the world notorious for instability.

After leaving the Navy in 1997, John earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and a Master’s Degree in Theology from Mercer University. He has worked as a hospital chaplain and mentor for youth, as well as a bodyguard, and a private investigator. In 1999, he hiked the Appalachian Trail for seven months from Maine to Georgia, completing what he considers one of several life goals. With passion for the men and women who serve our country in uniform, John facilitated the creation of this non-profit organization.
